Civil War Camp Monument and Lynching Site

Hidden in the woods just north of the Municipal Gardens family center, and on the site of the Camp Robinson civil war training camp, is a boulder memorial to the Union’s 11th Indiana Volunteer Regiment. Horrifically, the memorial is also the site of the lynching of 20-year old African-American resident George Tompkins on March 16, 1922.
