Discover White River recently received a grant from MIBOR to install hammock stands in a variety of attractions along the White River in both Hamilton and Marion County.

These free stands allow you to bring your own hammock, set it up safely, sit back and relax. The following stands are already up – or are coming soon!

Potter’s Bridge – stand is located near the western parking lot. Visitors can park at the main parking lot by the bathroom and follow the White River Greenway trail west along the river to get to the station or park in the overflow lot to the west of the main parking lot. See map for details!

White River Campground – the stand is located within the campgrounds by the beach and is accessible by parking at the camp store and walking through the campgrounds. Stand is also available by parking at the Strawtown Koteewi Taylor Center or west parking lot and walking over the blue bridge into the campgrounds.

Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park – The hammock stand at Newfields is located in The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park, along the bank of the White River.  Park in the lower parking lot at Fairbanks Park, which can be found from westbound 38th street. Take the exit ramp for White River Parkway East Drive.  Right after the crosswalk, pull down the gravel drive to your right and follow signage into the parking lot.  Exit the parking lot by the path in the northwest corner of the lot, which will take you to the Hawryluk Sculpture Green. Turn left and follow the edge of the woods until you reach the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust Marsh Cove trail. When the trail T’s, turn right. The hammock stand is on the right side of the trail.

All are welcome to grab your hammock, kick back, and soak in nature. Thank you to MIBOR and all partners involved with the project.
